"This is the boda-boda (bicycle taxi) capital of Africa! Just about everyone rides a bike here. The municipality has licensed each bike issuing an individual number plate. Needless to say it is the cheapest transport around town. Mbale is a lively bustling market town. The architecture is very reminiscent of the colonial era. The clock tower round about is certainly the most distinctive structure in town.
The bus station and taxi park is very central. Buses originating from Lira, Soroti, and Moroto are frequent throughout the day proceeding to Kampala. Those traveling to Budadiri (Mt. Elgon trekking) or Sipi Falls will find mini bus taxis departing throughout the morning leaving when full.
There are enough shops in town to equip yourself sufficiently for an extended trek on Mt. Elgon with both fresh and dried provisions."
